Saro Varjabedian, born and raised in Queens, New York, and of Armenian descent is an award winning Cinematographer and an up and coming Director. As a Cinematographer Saro has photographed five feature films and countless shorts, industrials and music videos. His work on the short film “Jesus Loves Yusef” has won Saro the Best Student Cinematography Award at the 2012 Palm Springs International Film Festival. “Elliot Loves” a feature film, which Saro photographed, has aired on HBO Latino, HBO Zone, HBO Comedy, HBO Go, Cinemax and Cinemax Go. He has recently finished principle photography on the feature films entitled “Gold Star” and “Lucky” is slated to photograph an Armenian themed feature film entitled, “Hye Hotel.” As a Director, Saro, a Columbia MFA Graduate, has written and directed three music videos and five short films, all of which have gone on to screen at International festivals. His thesis film, “After Water There Is Sand,” for the Columbia MFA Film program has screened at the 2012 Pomegranate film festival, winning the 2012 PomGrant, screened at the 2012 Arpa Film Festival, the 2013 Boston International Film Festival, the 2013 International Family Film Festival, the 2013 Women and Minorities in Media film festival and the 2013 Golden Apricot International Film Festival. Saro is currently teaching directing at NYFA, is directing a TV pilot entitled, “The Ridge” and is developing his first feature film entitled “Game Over.”
